I have worked in adult social care for 35 years and have been fortunate to experience a wide variety of roles. The first 10 years of my career were spent supporting adults with learning disabilities, a time I found incredibly rewarding. I felt privileged to make a difference every day and learned so much from the people I worked alongside. During this period, I progressed from Support Worker to Team Manager of a supported living service, and later to Regional Manager, overseeing 10 services including supported living, residential care, day services, and work preparation.
My journey then led me into older people’s services, where I had the opportunity to commission a large nursing home. Creating such a home from the ground up was one of my proudest professional moments, and I was honoured to receive the organisation’s Manager of the Year award. I later returned to a regional role covering multiple care homes across the South West, supporting Registered Managers and overseeing operational performance. Another highlight of this stage of my career was commissioning a second care home, which was a truly rewarding experience.
In 2021, I took the exciting step of setting up my own care consultancy, drawing on the experiences I had gained over the years. Since then, I have worked with a wide range of providers in different capacities, from long-term regional and quality roles to compliance visits, mentoring Registered Managers, and leading investigations and disciplinaries.
